SARASOTA WEEKLY EVENTS - VIDEO

Every week we give you the video scoop of whats happening in and around town.  Click the picture to see Eric give you a nice little explanation of whats going on in town this week.

THIS WEEK'S FUN

It’s an Un-believable Week!

It doesn’t matter whether you are pumped on politics or tired of hearing about it – It’s revving up through November. But, there’s nothing better than an Un-party to wind down and attend to your personal affairs of state.
We’re talking about the UnGala Gala's Warm Up Party, the UnParty, on Friday night. Always un-predictable (in a good way) the UnParty has an open bar, a terrific spread by Chef Paul Mattison, music by the always un-derstated, DJ Mark Lippert,  and many surprises  including  the un-veiling of the Galleria, the new catering room at Mattisson's Forty One. Plus, like the UnGala, the Unparty benefits the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art.

On Saturday night move your party over to the trés avant garde, perhaps politically uncorrect, performance of Removable Parts.  Part of the New Music New College program, this show of original love songs about voluntary amputation is performed cabaret-style by the creator, Corey Dargel and pianist Kathleen Supave.
Or, if that is not your style, groove with the Dances of Universal Peace – an evening of moving meditation (no dance experience or amputation required).

He’s Back – and better than ever. Al Fuller's Blues Jam at the Five O starts your week out right on Monday night. Hear some original tunes and then enjoy the open stage blues jam with many local musicians.  Bring your instruments and join in!

If you have ever wondered where reggae meets hip-hop, it is at Esca on Wednesday night. Go and find your roots, your reggae and your hips to the music of the hopping Tuff Sons.

Round it up – Round it out
More activities than you can ever do in a week: these are ongoing – so give them a try sometime soon. For art: The Designs of Paul Rudolph at Spanish Point and Ringling Retro at the Ringling Museum. For your body: Yoga with Lynn Burgess at Yoga From the Heart. Hungry? The Serving Spoon is now open for dinner and there is a new dinner menu at the Rustic Grill…mmmm.

The lovable and cuddly Bob Plunket from Sarasota Magazine tells the tale of Indian Beach.  Check him out by clicking the picture.  Afterward, view some Indian Beach properties by clicking here.

Not an Un-Political Message
And all (national) politics aside, we got an earnest message from our local commissioner, Ken Shelin. He wrote TWIS stressing about how we need to work together so downtown stays a great place to live, work, play, vote, raise families and raise Cain. That means being In-clusive, not Ex-clusive.
Shelin admonished the group The Coalition of City Neighborhood Associations (CCNA) for being “selective, insular and exclusionary,” and praised the new City Alliance, recently formed from a bunch of downtown associations.
Perhaps Shelin echoes our founding fathers when he says. “Exclusionary approaches to decision making on issues affecting the city or any part of it do not serve the City or the members of such groups well. Nor do such non-cooperative approaches to public discussion seem democratic or characteristic of the American way of tolerance of diversity of people and ideas.” – you go Ken!
